The 35th Istanbul Film Festival runs in Turkey from the 7th to the 17th of April. Since its foundation, the festival's aim has been to encourage the development of cinema in Turkey, to help Turkish cinema attain international recognition and to promote films of quality in the Turkish market.
This year's edition follows one marked by controversy, but nevertheless returns to represent some of the best titles in arthouse cinema through an expansive variety of excellent titles. There is something for everyone. CineCola has had the pleasure of watching many of the films in the program at previous festivals and various screenings. Therefore, here is a list of ten films that we recommend to anyone who will be attending the Istanbul Film Festival, or will simply find themselves in the area, and willing to take in a number of screenings throughout the course of its duration.
