26/7/2015 - Benicio Del Toro to receive honorary award at the 21st Sarajevo Film Fest

ACADEMY AWARD winning actor BENICIO DEL TORO will receive the HONORARY HEART OF SARAJEVO AWARD for his extraordinary contribution to the art of film at the 21st SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL.
 
 

BENICIO DEL TORO will be attending the festival to present FERNANDO LEON DE ARANOA's latest drama A PERFECT DAY, in which he has a starring role. The film will be screened as part of the OPEN AIR PROGRAM, the festival's largest screening venue where DEL TORO will also receive the HONORARY HEART OF SARAJEVO in front of an audience of 3,000 film enthusiasts.

 

The acclaimed actor will also hold a master class for the participants of TALENTS SARAJEVO, a networking and training platform for emerging film professionals from Southeast Europe and Southern Caucasus. 

 

BENICIO DEL TORO won the ACADEMY AWARD for his performance in TRAFFIC by STEVEN SODERBERGH (2000), with whom he reteamed for CHE (2008), in which he played the role of ERNESTO CHE GUEVARA. He was nominated for his role in 21 GRAMS by ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ INARRITU (2003). 

 

Other highlights in his filmography include SNATCH by GUY RITCHIE (2000) , THE USUAL SUSPECTS by BRYAN SINGER (1995) and FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS by TERRY GILLIAM (1998). 

 

Previous recipients of the HONORARY HEART OF SARAJEVO have included such names as MIKE LEIGH, BELA TARR, ANGELINA JOLIE and last year's GAEL GARCIA BERNAL. The award was designed by French designer and filmmaker AGNES B, who is also a patron of the festival.
