"Allen’s directorial debut was creating an entirely new and comedic dialogue to overdub a low budget Japanese spy film. The end result is a strange spy intrigue with people on the look out for the recipe of a great egg salad. The gimmick is a little too restrictive for poor old Woody. Nevertheless, he does what he can, and the end result is quite quirky and even interesting when considering that he touches on some of the themes he would later expand on with the works of his that were to follow."
