WE WERE SOLDIERS (2002) - ♦♦

Directed by - Randall Wallace

Starring - Mel Gibson

"We Were Soldiers had all the right elements in line to become one of the most intimate cinematic examinations of the Vietnam War and war in general. Instead, it becomes a rather underwhelming and by the book addition to the war genre. Its impact goes as far as the emotional speech delivered by Mel Gibson in the first half, where he notably tells his soldiers that men will die. Then it enters autopilot mode. The graphic portrayal of violence makes sense within the context and intentions of the film, but it too feels overdone."
