"Upon receiving a letter from their recently deceased son, two French former spouses who have not communicated in years meet in Death Valley where the letter states their son will be meeting them in a number of spots over a number of days.

VALLEY OF LOVE is a film that on paper seems interesting, not least of all because it stars powerhouse actors GERARD DEPARDIEU and ISABELLE HUPPERT in its leading roles. And despite flirting very subtly with paranormal elements, which also explains its specific geographic desertic setting, GUILLAUME NICLOUX's film is very much driven by the conversations between the two characters.

The film falls flat, the conversations seem naive and even the performances are unepectedly clumsy, shifting from plain to outragous in an overall show of disinterested. This does not aid the actual dramatic impact of the narrative or the dialogue, that is simply lacking if not downright awkward."
