"After the previous two outings in the Spider-Man saga, that had received more or less critical acclaim and certainly stood out among the countless other superhero films, Sam Raimi must have felt fearless. Still, even before the film came out, it was clear to everyone that having a plot with so many different elements from the revenge of the Green Goblet, to Sandman and Venom without forgetting Peter Parker’s own personal problems of a romantic nature that are given considerable screen time, might have been too much. And indeed, in the end it is. It’s almost painful to watch the screenplay fall apart under its own weight and even worse to see Sam Raimi lacking a sense of control not even looking to get one to restrain himself and letting loose a bag of tricks that, instead of working for the film as they had before, work against in in an exercise of self indulgence. Yes, the action sequences are spectacular, but there is no doubt about this final chapter in the trilogy being the most puzzling and least rewarding of the lot."
