"Twenty years on from Part II, The Godfather got its third addition. Here, a Michael Corleone in failing health and haunted by remorse still attempts to takeover a European-owned company after selling his casinos and hotels and laundering the money through the Vatican. This sets off a fierce mob war with dramatic developments. Coppola reluctantly agreed to make this film, and can’t quite cope with the weight of its predecessors. But while the film is flawed doesn’t hold up with the previous two, with its storyline tangling sometimes gracelessly, it’s not as disappointing as it would seem. Pacino’s performance is very strong and the film has some delightful moments of intensity and some compelling dramatic undertones that add depth."
