"A group of scientists take a trip to the moon by being shot via a cannon-like invention. The film is loosely based around a Jules Verne and an H.G. Wells book. It is stunningly avant garde in its use of special effects. Méliés is perhaps cinema’s first magician and what is most admirable is the language with which he brings his creation to life in a time when cinema was still new and such ambitious recreations would never have been so narratively complex. Visually creative and hugely imaginative, A Trip to the Moon still looks stylish and unmistakably carries a trademark look that went on to greatly influence cinema and still arguably does today."
