"MABEL'S STRANGE PREDICAMENT was a slapstick short from early cinema produced by MACK SENNETT, directed and starring popular comedienne MABEL NORMAND.

Here, MABEL plays a woman in a fancy hotel who gets locked out of her room wearing nothing but a nightgown. This sets off a usual succession of gags and chaos.

Yet, it is clear that despite him being in a supporting role, CHARLES CHAPLIN steals the show. And it is quite easy to see why. This was in fact the first film production in which he wore the costume and persona of The Tramp, which would of course then go on to become extremely successful and popular. He is particularly excellent in the role of the drunk, delightfully comedic but never overtly clownish and therefore totally convincing."
