THE BOURNE IDENTITY (2002) - ♦♦♦♦

Directed by - Doug Liman

Written by - Tony Gilroy, W. Blake Herron (based on the novel by Robert Ludlum)

Starring - Matt Damon

"THE BOURNE IDENTITY kickstarted the franchise based on the novels by ROBERT LUDLUM. It heavily marked the cinematic action spy genre by revolutionizing the character of the spy and presenting him as a scarred and much more vulnerable soul, a daring twist which for a while led to it competing in popularity with the long lasting legacy of 007, that in turn was inspired to revolutionize its own style.

Jason Bourne, played by MATT DAMON is in fact a man who, due to amnesia, is unable to rememeber anything about his past, who he is and what he does, and gradually awakens to the truth that he is a deadly secret agent.

Under the direction of DOUG LIMAN, the film is an exciting action piece with spectacular special effects and sequence that will not disappoint usual fans of the genre. But there is a somewhat unprecedented character depth within the usual boundaries of said genre that works a charm and broadens its appeal with added maturity, able to also enhance an emotional engagement with the viewer."
