"Welles would never enjoy the freedom he had for his first film Citizen Kane, and it showed in his follow up The Magnificent Amberson, where once again he explores wealth by bringing the story of a family struggling to adapt to a decadent age to the screen. The film uses the same ground breaking techniques as Kane, including its revolutionary camera angles and quick cutting, and even from a narrative point of view, the main character is a cold man apparently unable to love. The ending however, chief evidence of the troubled production, will leave a bad taste in most people’s mouths."
