Jon Jost's series of films to be continued by Brian Spellman and Daniel Levine

In 1973, legendary American indie director Jon Jost began working on a series of films aimed to capture the true feelings of the US of the times, which culminated in a film titled Speaking Directly. This was followed by his 1987 work Uncommon Senses: Plain Talk and Common Sense. Then, Jon lost interest in the continuation of the project and grew discouraged with the commercial prospects of what he thought would have been a long unconventional film.

Now, filmmaker Brian Spellman and Daniel Levine have taken matters into their own hands and are currently developing a third film to Jon Jost's observational saga with a project that is to be titled Plain Songs. Their plan is too drive around the US for two months and film as much as possible both realizing already conceived visuals and seeking out others that might come up organically.

Though Jon will not be on the road with them, Dan and Brian have stated that they will be in constant touch with him and the film will indeed be a full on collaboration. However, the two have decided to turn to Kickstarter for help and support. Their hope is to raise $3,500 for Plain Songs, and this will mostly be going towards travel funding and accommodation as well as production costs.

Jon Jost himself has been very active in filmmaking recently, having presented his work Coming to Terms at the last edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
