7/4/2015 - MakingOf.it crowdfunding project for the restoration of Dino Risi's 1963 film I MOSTRI

Italy's National Museum of Cinema in Turin and the Cineteca di Bologna got together to launch their latest film retoration project through the crowdfunding platform MakingOf.it, which aims to restore Dino Risi's classic 1963 commedia all'Italiana feature I Mostri (English title, Opiate 67).

This initiative follows the previous restoration project, which took place in 2014 and concerned Marco Ferreri's 1963 film L'udienza.

Dino Risi made I Mostri, his episodic comedy set in Rome during the early sixties, in 1963. However, it was not until some four years later that the film garnered international reputation, after its US release. The Italian filmmaker, reputed one of the masters of the Italian comedy genre, followed it up in 1977 with a critically acclaimed sequel named I Nuovi Mostri (English title, Viva Italia!), which was also nominated for an Academy Award.

The objective of this project is to raise 40,000 euro for the restoration of the film, and the aim is to have this version premiere in the Venice Classics section of the 72nd Venice Film Festival.

Donations can be made on MakingOf.it, a rewards based crowdfunding platform where whoever chooses to finance a project receives additional benefits - in this case on top of saving a piece of Italian cinema history. The deadline for donations is the 5th of June 2015.
