"THE BRATS is the second short film directed by FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT after his previous work UNE VISITE, despite this being considered his first of any consistence. Not least of all because it is also one of the first films to have established the style of the FRENCH NEW WAVE, here represented in its raw technical approach and a novel like attention to ordinary habits and aspects of everyday life.

This being the story of a group of kids chasing and annoying a couple of young lovers during the summer vacation, one can also spot some behaviours in the characters that would go on to be explored once again by TRUFFAUT in one of his masterpieces THE 400 BLOWS, that would soon follow. But on its own, in its duration, THE BRATS is also admirable for capturing a genuine feeling of youthful debauchery, in a quirky, rebellious and entertaining way."
