PRETTY WOMAN (1990) - ♦♦♦

Directed by - Garry Marshall

Written by - J.F. Lawton

Starring - Richard Gere, Julia Roberts

"One of the most famous chick flicks ever, and one of the most loved also because of the winning recipe of the Cinderella story; a millionaire hires an escort for the whole week and quickly falls in love with her. The plot is, as it ofen is in films of the kind, morally dubious to say the least. Yet, its underlying comments on social classes and the sex industry at least draw inspiration from interesting dark settings, although they are vastly sugarcoated for the benefit of multiplex crowds. It is undeniable that the film works so well and has had a long lasting reputation also thanks to the chemistry that Gere and Roberts share on the screen. And admittedly, Pretty Woman a times feels like the updated version of the charm of older romantic comedy classics. Yet, its shallow nature is hard to overlook."
