"Superman was revived for the big screen by Richard Donner in 1978 in this big production which traces his beginnings. To this day, this film remains one of the ones that is most faithful to the original concept. Furthermore, aside from the exciting action sequences and the interesting science fiction aspects of the film, the screenplay interestingly incorporates humour into the storyline. The quality of the film is elevated by the cast. While Marlon Brando only famously appears for a short while at the start of the flick, Gene Hackman is great as arch nemesis Lex Luthor. But it is perhaps the casting of Christopher Reeve that is most impressive. Practically a newcomer, his embodiment of the Man of Steel is arguably the ultimate interpretation of the famous superhero and the most iconic and age defining one."
