The Bird with the Crystal Plumage marked directorial debut of Italian giallo filmmaker Dario Argento. The story is that of an American writer who witnesses the attempted murder of the wife of a wealthy gallery owner at the hands of a serial killer.

Argento is already impressive in his debut, a very idiosyncratic take on a strong Hitchcockian suit - the everyman who becomes embroiled by accident in a sticky and risky situation.

It is shot with confidence. Each frame, in fact, seems meticulously thought out. This postmodernist approach doesn't seem intrusive. On the contrary, it is very exciting also because it feels vivid with colour and texture which adds a perverse sense of danger and tension that underlines its dense suspenseful atmosphere."
