"THE PRINCESS BRIDE is a timeless and beloved classic that draws inspiration from other traditional matinees and fairytales that told magical stories of swashbuckles, pirates, kings and princes and others such colourful characters.

The story is set once upon a time in a far away reign. Buttercup, a princess promised to a disagreeable ruler, is kidnapped by a ghastly gang with the aim to ferment an international incident. She, however, has little concern for her well being, unable to nurse her broken heart from the loss of her one true love, who died in war at sea years prior.

The story, written by WILLIAM GOLDMAN, is a mixture of familiar narrative that construct a very exciting and uniquely adventurous story from start to finish.

The film's nostalgic appeal is enhanced by its costumes and art direction, that recall the afore mentioned traditonal matinees. But it is also very funny, and its sense of humour, complete with some truly memorable one liners, very much contributes to the action of the film but also to the air of timelessness of ROB REINER's film.

Further warmth is provided by the framing of the central narrative, which is being narrated by a grandfather to his nephew who occasionally interrupts the story's "kissy" bits in disgust, or its darker moments with concern."
