6/2/2014 - The Berlinale to pay tribute to recently deceased Academy Award winners Philip Seymour Hoffman and Maximilian Schell

This year's Berlin International Film Festival is set to honour recently deceased Academy Award winning actors Philip Seymour Hoffman and Maximilian Schell with two special screenings.

The American actor, who was found dead in the bathroom of his office apartment last Sunday, will be remembered with a special screening of Capote, which had been screened in the competition of the Berlinale in 2006. Philip Seymour Hoffman then went on to win the Academy Award for his performance as the titular writer Truman Capote in the film. The screening of Capote will be taking place on February 11th at 9.00pm at the Cinemaxx 6.

The Austrian born actor, who died on February 1st, will be remembered with a special screening of his documentary drama My Sister Maria. Made in 2002, Schell's film is about his sister - a famous film star who tragically struggled with her dementia. The screening of the film will take place at the Urania Filmbühne Berlin on February 9th at 3.00 pm. Schell won an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in the 1961 film Judgement at Nuremberg.
