"A woman, who lived a life constantly bullied and abused, is the donor for a wealthy old man in a vegetative state, desperately kept alive by his son in order for him to keep feeding off his fortune.

MADONNA by SHIN SU-WON is an ambitious drama that aims to represent themes such as feminism and the battle between the wealthy and the poor. However, its execution does not match said ambition. The film's narrative is needlessly hard to follow, despite the film not necessarily being as artistically daring as one would expect an experimental film to be. Furthermore, the constant repetitive abuse to which the titular overweight female character is subjected to is painfully repetitive and progressively loses its meaning and provocative appeal.

It is fair to say that the film's dark nature is well conveyed by its modern noir stylised cinematography. Nevertheless, in its two hour length, its overall inconsistence prevents it from being as powerful as it probably could have been."
