"Two young writers fall in love and their lives are torn apart and made miserable by intervention of Satan himself who presents himself like a respectable gentleman. An unusual melodrama which nevertheless stands as one of Griffith’s most forgettable films, although perhaps the fact that this was a studio film rather than one of his independent productions can be held as a plausible reason. Menjou is good as the suave and deceitful embodiement of Satan."
