Winners of the 14th T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Fest announced

The 14th T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival of Wroclaw in Poland came to an end last night. The winners of this year's edition of the biggest film festival in Poland were announced in its four different main competitions: The New Horizons International Competition, Films on Art International Competition, Polish Short Film Competiton and European Short Film Competition.

 

In the New Horizons International competition, the jury declared that the winner of the €20,000 Grand Prize was White Shadows (Tanzania, Germany, Italy) by Noaz Deshe. But the audience also agreed it was the best of the 13 films in competiton, as it claimed this year's audience award as well. The International Federation of Film Critics was at the festival for the fifth time in its history, and gave the FIPRESCI prize to History of Fear (Argentina, France, Germany, Qatar) by Benjamin Naishtat.

On the Films on Art International Competition front, the jury awarded the highest prize of €10,000 to the film The Reunion (Sweden) by Anna Odell - her feature directorial debut following her much talked about background in performance art. Zuzanna Solakiewicz's Polish feature film 15 Corners of the World also received a special mention in this category.

On the short film front, it was an Austrian film by Markus Scherer called O.T. (which also won the London Film Academy award) and two British films - the first by Mark Lewis, Laura Mulvey and Faysal Abdullah named 23rd August 2008 and the second by Laure Prouvost named Wantee. Grand Dad Friendship that won the European section. On the Polish selection the winners were Arjun Talwar's Cant's Be Found, Tomasz Siwinski's Blue Room and Arjun Talwar and Oliver Kruger's Habitat.
