BEYOND MY GRANDFATHER ALLENDE (Allende Mi Abuelo Allende) (2015) - ♦♦♦

Directed by - Marcia Tambutti Allende

"BEYOND MY GRANDFATHER ALLENDE is a documentary in which filmmaker MARCIA TAMBUTTI ALLENDE conducts a warm hearted investigation on her grandfather, the family. A very personal look at the Chilean political figure of SALVADOR ALLENDE, the first Marxist president to be elected in any South American country.

The film is driven by an inevitable sense of frustration, as the director's questions are often met by restraint by the members of her family, who seem less than willing to open up. From a viewer's perspective, this can make it seem like the documentary moves around in circles for extended amounts of times.

What can be admired, in the end, is the way in which MARCIA TAMBUTTI ALLENDE chooses to make herself a part of the investigative process, speaking in first person and standing in front of the camera, therefore enhancing the appeal of the personal journey and admitting to the various struggles she encountered throughout the making of the film."
