26/4/2016 - Restored "Intimate Lighting" by Ivan Passer at Karlovy Vary

The restored version of Ivan Passer's 1965 film, "Intimate Lighting," will have its World Premiere at the 51st Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

The 51st Karlovy International Film Festival will host the world premiere of the Czech film Intimate Lighting, Ivan Passer's feature directorial debut from 1965, Intimate Lighting

The film is a bittersweet comedy about an encounter between two former classmates and musicians. It was made in the midst of the Czechoslovak New Wave of the 1960s. Intimate Lighting was also the only film Passer made in Czechoslovakia, as he would shoot the rest of his films in the USA following his emigration.

Intimate Lighting will be the latest film of digitally restored important Czech and Czechoslovak films to have been presented at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The tradition began in 2011, with the festival's screening and restoration of František Vláčil’s Marketa Lazarová (1967), with the support of the National Czech Film Archive (NFA) and the Ministry of Culture.

The gala premiere of the digitally-restored copy of Intimate Lighting will take place in the presence of director Ivan Passer on July 2.

The 51st Karlovy Vary International Film Festival runs from the 1st to the 9th of July. For more information, go to https://www.kviff.com/en/homepage
