"Original kind of biopic telling the life of underground comic book writer Harvey Pekar whose work American Splendor was the precursor of reality TV. 

The film is not only told through narrative, but mixed in with documentary and animation, showing different parallel portrayals of Harvey Pekar in real life, as acted in the film and as a character from his comic book. The technique is a little overpowering, but the film is entertaining and sometimes touching, with a witty dialogue and great performances from the cast, particularly Paul Giamatti in another ace performance."
