"The tale of Campbell Scott’s tragic 1912 expedition to the South Pole. Made in the forties, this film has some undoubtedly admirable technical values that make the whole experience more adventurous but also faithfully represent the desperate and dangerous conditions with which the intrepic explorers undertook their great tasks. Admittedly, the film tends to drag and while it is admirable that Frend and his scriptwriters would choose a realistic approach over a sugarcoated one, it makes Scott of the Antartic feel slower and longer."
