"Out of all the numerous movies based on the famous novel by Jules Verne, this one is still the best and most loved. The story of Around the World in 80 Days follows the famous one of the English gentlemen who places a bet that he will be able to travel around the world in eighty days.

Niven is suitably cast as the snobbish tycoon, at once charming and delightfully satirical in the leading role.

The film is a classic but also a manifesto of the grandur and spectacle of Hollywood productions of the time, with its record setting 100 settings and numerous animals, costumes and the whole lot to make the story’s cinematic transition as realistic and as spectacular as it could have been at the time. Much to its credit, it is also full of surprising cameos, and only occasionally does it feel excessive while very often it is simply wonderfully adventurous."
