MAX TAKES TONICS (Max Victime du Quinquina) (1911) - ♦♦♦♦♦

Directed by - Max Linder

Written by - Maurice Delamare

Starring - Max Linder

"A man, feeling weak and tired, is prescribed a tonic by a doctor. However, the tonic makes him act like a drunk and get into all kinds of situations with the law and important political figures whom he is mistaken for. Linder is very often an unappreciated figure of early slapstick comedy, but this is among the best of proofs that it should not be so. Linder, in fact, is perhaps one of the most influential of such figures, and from this short it is clear that his gags, comedic timing and personality was way ahead of his time and went on to inspire the likes of Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd."
