BELOW ZERO (1930) - ♦♦♦♦

Directed by - James Parrott

Written by - H.M. Walker, Nat Hoffberg, Leo McCarey

Starring - Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy

"Another Laurel and Hardy short film gem. In Below Zero, the legendary comedic duo play two whacky street musicians who think they just got a break after they pick up a lost wallet and quickly start spending the cash. However, soon enough, its rightful owner shows up.

The casual and relentless nature in which disaster piles upon disaster in this film shows an excellent rhythm that makes the film all the more entertaining. Despite this film not being extremely ambitious, it is incredibly creative and it is fascination to see a pretty normal situation escalate almost naturally into a long streak of bad luck that builds up to the almost surreal and frantic finale.

Below Zero is also worthy of note due to a peculiar technical advancement which it features; it was the first recognised talkie to make use of background music."
