"A father comes out of the countryside to look for his son’s killer. The film’s screenplay is quite straightforward yet director Wakamatsu makes sure to coat it with many sinister and even nightmarish elements that make Shinjuku Mad a more intriguing experience. The black and white photography adds stylistic substance to the film, though the popular culture references are either cartoonish or outdated – whatever they are, they sometimes feel unintentionally comedic."
