"Enemy" by Denis Villeneuve wins the Black Lion at the 23rd Courmayeur Noir in Festival

"Emeny" wins the highest award at the 23rd Courmayeur Noir in Festival, a festival in Northern Italy dedicated to the thriller, the giallo and the noir genres. "Enemy" is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, and it is the story of a man's mysterious search for his double, whom he spots in a film. The jury - presided by screenwriter Ludovica Rampoldi who is currently working on a TV series based on Matteo Garrone's Gomorra - called it "a disturbing film of great tension that provides a new and original reading of the 'doppleganger' storyline"
 
A special jury prize was shared between the Argentinian Noir "The German Doctor", directed by Lucía Pruenzo and starring Alex Brendemuhl as the infamour Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, and "The Keeper of Lost Causes", a Swedish film by Mikkel Norgaard about a cold case. Of the former, the jury said "mixing fact and fiction, Lucía Pruenzo recounts an uncomfortable truth through the unusual relationship between a little girl and a German doctor with a dark past." Of the latter, the jury stated, "we very much admired The Keeper of Lost Causes for its mastery that takes care of all the smallest details of the editing, photography, direction and interpretations".
 
The acting award went to Roberto De Francesco for his role in "Neve", directed by Stefano Incerti. The award went to De Francesco for the "depth and precision of his performance."
