"LE DEP, which marks the directorial debut of SONIA BOILEAU, tells the story of a corner store robbery with heavy personal implications. As the film progresses, more and more personal drama arises, which intensifies the narrative concept of the robbery itself.

The film tells the story as it unfolds in the course of the night, which is a challenging narrative structure to begin with. It suffers from some dull moments, and some inevitably cheesy exposition dialogue, but for the most part there is a healthy balance to keep the viewer invested. This is also because of the exploitation of the claustrophobic titular corner store setting, in which story is set from start to finish.

To add a little something to the story, is also a meaningful examination of an important cultural context, the one of the aborigenal community of Canada, and its marginalisation as well as some of the social plagues particularly relevant to the community, without this aspect coming across as preaching and rather deeping the aspect of the story of LE DEP."
