Angel Heart is stylistically admirable and frustrating and the same time. Its sheen and sexual charge are unquestionably effective. At the same time the lack of focus in the narrative, and an air of pretentiousness that runs through Alan Parker's film is unflattering especially considering some of its graphic novel like wit, of which the name of the character of the devil being Louis Cyphre is a perfect example."
