THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY-SOXER (1947) - ♦♦♦♦

Directed by - Irving Reis

Written by - Sidney Sheldon

Starring - Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, Shirley Temple

"The teenage of a female judge is discovered in the house of an older artist. To get out of this jam and avoid prison, said artist and notorious playboy is given the choice by the judge to agree to date her sister against her wishes, and make himself seem unappealing enough for her infatuation to fade away.

The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer has a concept that is quite implausible to say the least. Nevertheless, it is easily forgivable. A reason for why that is comes directly from the screenplay itself which, despite being quite formulaic, is full of great screwball humour and also works the gimmick of juxtaposing representatives of an older and a younger generation quite well. The other reason comes from the pairing up of Cary Grant and Myrna Loy in the roles of the pivotal couple - the former playing the childish and devilishly charming man, the other an empowered woman that seems immune to love and sex."
