"When his identity is given away, a man who was under a witness protection program finds himself a fugitive from a bunch of criminals he helped put in prison with a woman who fifteen years previous had been his lover. 

Bird on Wire presents a standard and unoriginal story which mixes comedy within an action film structure. A lot of the humour in it is meant to be influenced by screwball, and the contrast between the pivotal couple played by Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn. But the lacking ambition in the overall project makes even this aspect, which should have been a driving force in the film, feel far too autopiloted to affect John Badham's film positively."
