The film set the tone for bank robbery films to come; not many are as good as this one. Dog Day Afternoon craftily balances violence, suspense and humour. Furthermore, this is another wonderful collaboration between Lumet and Pacino, and a further proof of the great work they could do together, with the latter delivering an exceptional performance as the lead character.
