"Based on the true story of a Brooklyn bank robbery by a man to fund his male partner’s sex change. Things do not start well and go from bad to worse, leading up to the inevitable tragic finale. The film set the tone for bank robbery films to come; not many are as good as this one. Dog Day Afternoon craftily balances violence, suspense and humour. Furthermore, this is another wonderful collaboration between Lumet and Pacino, and a further proof of the great work they could do together, with the latter delivering an exceptional performance as the lead character.
