"A Beautiful Mind is a film based on the life and works of genius mathematician John Forbes Nash, from his college days to much later in life. It particularly focuses on his troubles with schizophrenia and his tumultuous and yet loving relationship and bond with his wife and muse.

Many of the narrative elements implied in the film's premise - particularly the one of the genius with mental disorders - may make it sound like a usual, exploitative and tired old concept, particularly appreciated by The Academy come award season. Nevertheless, A Beautiful Mind is certainly one of the best specimen of such films. Under is directed by Ron Howard, who contributes with some great visuals and a clever balance between romanticism as well as an air of thrilling mystery that makes the film gripping and entertaining.

While it is true that A Beautiful Mind inevitably opts for an over sentimentalising of many of the aspects of its story, and even James Horner's excellent scores is used a little excessively to maniputale an audience's reactions to the on screen action, the power of the emotional and intimate portrayal is feels very legitimate for the most part.

This is also because of the powerhouse performance by Russell Crowe, one of his very best, an excellently contained performance very respectful towards his character and his mental afflictions. Jennifer Connelly is also praise worthy in the role of his wife, and the two's great chemistry is one of A Beautiful Mind's most important driving forces."
