"It's not so much the fact that Ali G Indahouse is so terribly unfunny that makes the experience of watching it all the more harrowingly painful. It was more that, at the time, Sacha Baron Cohen was on a roll as he had taken the world by storm with his exciting and seemingly fearless distinctive sense of humour - so expectations were high when it was announced that he would be making his feature debut.

Ali G, a caricatural youth with fake streetwise appeal and a heavy Brit accent complete with colourful slang, was certainly one of his most established and best characters. But this film is so bland and so desperately humourless that it simply feels like a waste of time.

The damage to Sacha Baron Cohen could have been much greater. However, he soon found ways to achieve credibility in future works, that were perhaps less disappointingly studio driven and far superior in wit and audacity."
