"The first of a long series of Fantozzi films, and one of the most beloved Italian comedies of all time. That is certainly because Fantozzi is so representative of the submitted working class, exaggerated for the purpose of satire. He is an everyday loser, working a dead end job, an ugly wife and an even uglier daughter, who never seems to have his way.

Despite some cheap laughs, Fantozzi is mostly satire at its best, and there is always sense and downright intelligence behind its comedic representation. Paolo Villaggio is simply iconic here. And while the film follows the structure of a series of vignettes instead of a clear and straight forward narrative, the flow of the film is nothing short of addictive thanks to great gags and set ups freely inspired by the slapstick comedy of old with an acute awareness and commentary on the socio-political situation of its time."
