Chris Columbus fails in the challenge of what could have been a good premise had it given more importance to its more universally relevant message of social acceptance and tolerance. As it happens, the film wastes such a opportunity and is content with being a science fiction comedy drama. It relies mostly on Robin Williams' charm to connect with its audience and almost gets away with it."
