CINDERELLA MAN (2005) - ♦♦♦♦

Directed by - Ron Howard

Written by - Cliff Hollingsworth, Akiva Goldsman

Starring - Russell Crowe, Renée Zellweger

"The title didn’t do the marketing any favours, but this film is almost as good as the previous Howard/Crowe collaboration A Beautiful Mind. This time, they tell the story of Depression Era boxer James B. Braddock, who went from fame and riches to poverty and misery and eventually got a chance to redeem himself in a kind of feel good tale that American cinema has always liked to show. It only occasionally gets too sugary to stand. Worthy of note is Giamatti’s excellent performance in the role of Crowe’s manager and friend, and the wonderful photography that captures the melancholy of the era."
