"Based on the famous Oscar Wilde play script, this film is about two men whose creations of brothers or alter egos named Ernest cause confusion and strange situations among two families of the British upper class of the late 19th century. The original material is of course exceptionally witty and intelligent, as well as naturally funny. However, this cinematic translation is hardly memorable, and perhaps even only stands as a simple little British period comedy with a good cast."
