"For a movie about a super-secret government agency protecting the earth from aliens that on paper appears to be nothing but a reworking of the buddy cop film formula as a science fiction action movie, it is surprisingly hip and entertaining in an original way, and the key to its success might lie in its campy approach which never takes itself too seriously, as well as the strange team up of opposite personalities with the old fashioned Tommy Lee Jones with street wise apprentice Will Smith really working off each other’s contrasting performances with great chemistry. The special effects, exaggerated and sometimes slightly overdone, give the whole thing a comic book like appeal (the film is based on a comic book after all), contributing to an already good mix of clever dialogue and impressive visuals."
