"Overwhelming to say the least, this stylistic mess is especially weak and a lot less warm than the beloved classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; the two movies are almost completely different, but the older predecessor has a greater timeless appeal whereas although this version comes closer to Dahl’s original material, it’s hard to think of this film as anything more than a playground for Tim Burton’s eccentricities."
