THE INTERN (2015) - ♦♦♦

Directed by - Nancy Meyers

Written by - Nancy Meyers

Starring - Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway

"A 70-year-old widower decides to seize the opportunity to escape the boredom of retirement by becoming a senior intern at an online fashion site, run by a successful female entrepeneur, whose determination and ambition cause her to seem a little cold and distant. The two bridge their generation gap against all odds, and develop a friendship that proves to be rewarding for the both of them.

THE INTERN is a comedy full of warmth that offers very few hearty laughs and some chuckles. Despite its initial premise, it constantly plays it safe to the point of its development seeming far too predictable. NANCY MEYERS' writing, however, still shows some underlying cleverness in the characters themselves.

ROBERT DE NIRO is at his most charming playing a man whose finesse and charming ways seem of a time so far removed, but make him all the more likeable. But the most interesting aspect of the film comes from the subtle and yet meaningful sense of feminism that is relevant to the character played by ANNE HATHAWAY, as she awakens to the guilt of being a woman and working her way to success, but giving up a woman's traditional role in the process."
