"The famous Alice in Wonderland tale by Lewis Carroll is brought to its life on the big screen for the first time in this version which dates back to 1903, when cinema was still a very modern medium.

This serves perhaps more as a catalogue of handmade special effects made to cheaply amaze its audience. The filmmakers naturally still had very little idea of how to pace themselves.

By today's standards, naturally, there is very little plot to be admired not least of all because the surviving footage we have to this day may skip over important narrative points, though it is highly unlikely that the quality of this film from a storytelling point of view could have been much better."
