10/11/2015 - LUX Film Days simultaneous screening of award finalist MEDITERRANEA in 8 different European Cities, Nov 8

The LUX PRIZE and the LUX FILM DAYS are preparing a special event this year, which revolves around one of the three finalists for the Award. MEDITERRANEA by JONAS CARPIGNANO will be screened simultaneously in eight different cities of the European Union.

The film, which focuses on the story of the journey undertaken by two men from Burkina Faso to Italy, where they end up in Rosarsno, Calabria during the violent revolt of 2010, will be the centre piece of the LUX FILM DAYS in BRUSSELS' BOZAR on November 11. The screening will then be followed by a Q and A session withe director JONAS CARPIGNANO himself, which will be live streamed from the Belgian capital after the simultaneous screenings at the FORUM DES IMAGES in Paris, during the SEVILLE EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL, at the BRATISLAVA FILM FESTIVAL, during the CORK FILM FESTIVAL, at the FESTIVAL CINEUROPA of Santiago de Campostela and at CINEMACITY ALVALADE in Lisbon.

The eventg will be accompanied by a live tweet hosted by ARTE, which the audience will be able to participate in via the #luxprize hashtag. ARTE, a partner of the LUX Film Days screenings, will also be streaming the event live on their official website.

MEDITERRANEA by JONAS CARPIGNANO is a co-production between Italy, France, the US, Germany and Qatar. It was presented at the SEMAINE DE LA CRITIQUE section of the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL and has been met with critical praise at its numerous screenings at different film festivals this year. MEDITERRANEA, a film about the migration flows across the Mediterranean Sea, is now searingly topical, especially since the problem has been exacerbated by the Syrian conflict.

It is also one of the three finalists films of the LUX PRIZE, which was established in 2007 as a tangible symbol of the European Parliament’s commitment to the European film industry and its creative endeavours.

The other two films nominated for the 2015 LUX PRIZE award are MUSTANG by DENIZ GAMZE ERGUVEN and UROK (THE LESSON) by KRISTINA GROZEA and PETAR VALCHANOV. Through the LUX FILM DAYS, the three films are currently being watched and voted for by audiences not only from Brussels, but from all across Europe, and the awards ceremony will then take place on November 24 in Strasbourg.
