26/6/2015 - FRED Film Radio to host the 1st FRED at School conference in London, UK on 2 July

FRED Film Radio will be hosting the first FRED at School conference, entitled "Building New Audiences for European Cinema" at Regent Street Cinema in London, UK on 2 July 2015. This will be a conference where the filmmakers, students, teachers, minority language representatives and members of the film industry will give a snapshot of the achievements of the first edition and the potential expansion into the second edition of FRED at School, which will also include additional languages.

 

FRED at School is FRED Film Radio's international film eduaction project in the European Union's Creative Europe programme with the aim top raise awareness of European cinema among young people, students aged from 14 to 16 years of age. Various secondary schools from eight different countries - UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Croatia, Romania and Iceland - signed up for its inaugural edition, and more countries will be lined up for next year's run.

 

Each participating school has shown four films to their students, each of them films that were shortlisted for the European Parliament's LUX Prize competition. The films were selected as age appropriate and with subject matter relating to pretinent iussues of European citizenship and correlating to the educational curriculum. The films selected were Illégal by Olivier Masset-Passant (2011), Akadimia Platonos by Filippos Tsitos (2009), Eat Sleep Die by Gabriela Pichler (2012) and Shun Li and the Poet by Andrea Segre (2011).
