"Zeffirelli’s version of the famous Shakesperean play about a forsaken love relationship between the son and daughter of two rival families is regarded as the best and most loyal of them all. The film is in fact quite spectacular and freely inspired by a more theatrical approach that captures the burning passion and romanticism of youth of any generation. Though it does not have a big name cast, the performances are tremendous, and the Nino Rota score as well as Pasqualino de Santis’ cinematography add to the overall majestic effect of the movie that is still the best cinematic representation of Shakespeare’s most famous and celebrated play."
