"Thomas Jacob, a world renowned singer songwriter who burnt a lot of bridges on his way to the top, returns to his native land of Denmark to record his new album. Once there, he is forced to take care of his eleven year old grandson Noa, whom he never met before, while his estranged daughter checks into rehab. The two slowly connect through music.

There is nothing apparently new about the average family drama storyline. The thing that differentiates SOMEONE YOU LOVE is the central character of the successful singer songwriter, often represented in a caricatural way. It is from MIKAEL PERSBRANDT quietly eccentric performance, and the stubbornness of the not entirely likeable character he plays, that much of the drama and the relentlessly dark overtones of the film remain remain interesting, sometimes even uncomfortable.

The abrupt and yet inevitable ending leaves a bad taste in the viewer's mouth. Nevertheless, embellished by an original soundtrack, strangely defined by songs that fall half way between sounding like LEONARD COHEN and NICK CAVE numbers, PERNILLE FISCHER CHRISTENSEN is more realistic than many of its similar, thus considerably more rewarding."
